Vivien 'June' Vinson, 93

Vivien "June" Vinson, 93, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Health Center Northwest in Kalispell. She was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Smithfield, Pa., to Charles Edward and Annie May (Kremer) Morris.

June graduated from Georges High School in York Run, Pa., and went to nurses training graduating from Columbia Hospital in Wilkinsburg, Pa., in 1936. She worked at Connellsville, Pa., for five years prior to going into the U.S. Army May 17, 1942.

June served active duty as an Army nurse in World War II, serving for nine years. She stayed in active Reserves working in the Veterans Hospital in Sheridan, Wyo., where she retired in 1970. She retired from the Army Reserves after achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1973, serving a total of 29 years in the U.S. Army.

She married Glenn Vinson, Nov. 7, 1961, in Las Vegas, and they enjoyed 24 years together before his passing in 1985. They moved to Montana where she was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Montana Blind Association.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Erwin and Edward Morris; two sisters, Dorothy Christy and Martha Eicher; and also a stepdaughter, Betty Korn.

She is survived by her two sisters, Kathleen Wagner of Emsworth, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Mirabal of Buffalo, N.Y.; two stepchildren, Norma Skipper and Donald Vinson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Vivien "June" Vinson will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Epworth United Methodist Church with burial to follow services at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel.

The family suggests memorials be given in her name to Epworth Untied Methodist Church, 329 Second Ave. East, Kalispell, MT 59901.
