Libby boys win Class A track

MISSOULA - Richard Brumbaugh led a 1-2-4 charge in the javelin and Seth Wright won the triple jump as Libby scored 43 points on the final day to win the boys' Class A track title Saturday at Missoula County Stadium.

Libby had 61 points for the two-day meet, edging Laurel, 60, for the championship.

Belgrade, 57, came in third with Columbia Falls, 44, fourth.

The Whitefish girls also used a strong push on the final day to claim the runner-up team spot.

Courtney Ferda won the 200 (25.72) and Ashley Ferda won the 100 hurdles (15.54) as the Lady Bulldogs totaled 61 points.

Belgrade, 78 points, won the girls' title. Corvallis finished third.

Courtney Ferda also placed third in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

The other area individual champions on the day were: Bigfork's Andrew Whittaker in the 100 (11.26), Ronan-St. Ignatius' Tyler Espinosa in the 200 (22.95) and Alan Skogan in the discus (160-9), Whitefish's Cort Rogers in the pole vault (15-6, which is a new Class A record), and Columbia Falls' Amber Lampman in the triple jump (35-8 1/2).

Two relay teams were winners: Columbia Falls boys' 400 relay (Jason Sternad, Brian Merseal, Kyle Jangula and Scott Palmer) and Polson girls' 1,600 relay (Nicole Davey, Tanna Bull, Christa Redcrow and Merilee Mowbray).

Brumbaugh won the javelin with a distance of 187-0. Kyle Baker was second, 180-3, and Christian Lehnert fourth, 173-1.

Baker finished second in the discus (158-7) and teammate Porter Nelson tied for fourth in the pole vault (14-0).
