Robert Henry Schock 'departed this world' on Nov. 14, 2007, 'to join his wife, Dorothy Swensen Rismon Schock, in the loving partnership which will never again be interrupted.'

Bob and Dot operated the 2/S Ranch near Billings from the time of their marriage on June 1, 1956, until her death on July 12, 2005. Bob lived on, loved and nurtured that ranch from his birth on April 21, 1925, until Dec. 27, 2004, when he and Dot moved to Kalispell to be nearer their daughter, P.J. Rismon-Beckley and son-in-law, Paul Beckley.

Robert was the eldest child of Fred W. Schock and Henrietta Bliss Schock, and was later joined by siblings Mary Kathryn (deceased) and Fred L. of Cody, Wyo.

His mother was an elementary school teacher who taught him to read well before he was old enough to start first grade. He cherished books and learning throughout his life and spent many happy hours consuming a wide variety of reading materials. It was rare to find him without a book or magazine in his back pocket 'just in case.'

Bob's sense of civic duty was demonstrated by lengthy service as a leader of the Billings area Lively Livestock 4-H Club. He also served for an extended period of time on the board of trustees for the Independent Grade School District. Other organizational involvements included membership of Atonement Lutheran Church, Billings Heights Lions Club and the Masons.

Like all good farmers and ranchers, he was skilled in the essential arts of hay production, animal husbandry, range management, carpentry, plumbing, welding, machine and vehicle maintenance, electrical work, fishing and poker (a genetic Schock predisposition).

The last three years of his life were spent in the loving care and companionship of staff and residents at Buffalo Hill Terrace and Immanuel Lutheran Home where he relished the many opportunities to socialize. His charismatic manner allowed him to make friends quickly, and he savored the warm and welcoming environment provided by both facilities.

A private burial has taken place. Celebrations of life are planned in the coming months at the Buffalo Hill Terrace, the Immanuel Lutheran Home, and the Yost Ranch in Billings.

For those wishing to make a memorial tribute, the family suggests donations to the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, P.O. Box 221, Kalispell, MT 59901; or the Humane Society of Park County, 5537 Greybull Highway, Cody, WY 82414.
