The Flathead County Board of Adjustment will meet tonight for public hearings on a conditional-use permit and a zoning variance.

A hearing on a gravel-pit proposal that had been scheduled tonight has been postponed.

Orin and Glenda Fredenberg are requesting a zoning variance for their property in the Airport West Zoning District, which is zoned agricultural. The Fredenbergs want a variance on minimum lot size. The property is located at 2648 Trumble Creek Road.

Kevin and Michele Hadley are requesting a conditional-use permit to operate a mini-storage facility in the Evergreen Zoning District at 1077 Whitefish Stage Road.

Consideration of a proposed gravel pit in the West Valley area was postponed so landowners can address concerns raised in a critical Planning Office report.

Gary and Jessica Krueger had sought a conditional-use permit to operate a gravel pit and asphalt/concrete plant in the U.S. 93 North Zoning District.

The site is on the northeast corner of the intersection of Church Drive and Fox Farm Road. The permit area encompasses 40 acres; the area currently is zoned agricultural.

The proposed gravel operation would generate enough traffic that one of its gravel trucks would drive down Fox Farm Road and Church Drive every nine minutes during operational hours.

The Planning Office recommended that the Board of Adjustment deny the gravel-pit permit.

According to the Planning Office report, "Detrimental impacts from increased truck travel on Fox Farm Road, Church Drive and Stillwater Road would result from this operation. The proposed use will have a significant impact on these county roads, both in physical impact from heavily loaded truck traffic, and increased conflict potential due to the imminent increase of residential traffic generated by the adjacent subdivisions."

The Kruegers requested their public hearing be delayed to give them time to respond to the report.

The hearing has not yet been rescheduled.

The Board of Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m. in the second-floor conference room of the Earl Bennett Building at 1035 1st Ave. W., Kalispell.
