Whitefish golfers 1st, second at state

ANACONDA - A little rain, a lot of wind, some periods of rain and snow - that's right, snow - and the Whitefish High School golf programs are both sitting in the top two at the State A tournament at The Old Works Golf Course after Wednesday's first round.
The Bulldogs are tied with Hamilton atop the boys' leaderboard at 318. The Lady Bulldogs are in second, about 12 strokes behind Glendive (361).
"The weather definitely affected the players, more so the girls," Whitefish coach Terry Nelson said. "In fairness, they had some putting problems as well."
Senior Sam Krause is in second place on the boys' individual leaderboard, two shots behind Hamilton's Josh Grenier.
Whitefish's Andre Groschupf is in third place, a stroke behind Krause. Libby's Jim Mee is a stroke behind Groschupf, in sixth place.
"Our boys played reasonably well, considering the weather," Nelson said. "Andre (Groschupf) had a great score given the weather."
The Polson boys are in sixth, 25 strokes behind third-place Billings Central. Libby is in eighth, 13 shots behind Polson.
The Polson girls are in third place, 25 shots from first place. Julia DiGiallonardo leads the Pirates. She is in fifth place, seven strokes from first. Teammate Natalia Arlint is just one stroke from DiGiallonardo and is tied for sixth place with Whitefish's Chelsea Ray and Quinn Micklewright.
The weather is predicted to be colder today for the final round with a big cold front moving in.
