Former Kalispell City Councilman Lauren Granmo died early Friday morning. He was 76.

Granmo served on the council in the 1980s and 1990s.

?He was a person of his word,? said Kalispell city Councilman Robert Hafferman, who graduated from Flathead High School with Granmo in 1949. ?He served the community and he took pride in what he was doing.?

He will be remembered as a considerate man who took pride in his convictions, Hafferman said.

Granmo was on the City Council that oversaw the building of the city?s wastewater treatment plant, the same plant that recently won a national Environmental Protection Agency award. He was also instrumental in the construction of Flathead Valley Community College.

?He thought things out really well and was always fair,? said Councilman Duane Larson, who served with Granmo. ?He didn?t have an agenda.?

Granmo worked as an engineer for Morrison-Maierle Inc., and left the council to work for an engineering firm in North Dakota.

Granmo had suffered from a kidney disease for several years.
