Sara Fine, 102

Sara Fine, 102, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Brendan House in Kalispell. Sara was born on Dec. 9, 1904, on the Kleinhans Farm north of Flathead Lake to Weber and Mary Jane "Minnie" Kleinhans.

She attended Rousellee and Somers Grade Schools, graduating from Flathead County High School in 1922. She attended Western Montana College summer sessions while teaching for two years at Stillwater School District and a year at Lakeside School.

She married Will Fine on June 17, 1925, in Missoula. During her married life in Somers, she was often called upon as a substitute teacher at Somers School. After Will passed away in August of 1966, she accepted a position as house mother on the campus at University of Montana in Missoula.

Sara was active all her married life at the Somers Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday-school teacher and superintendent. She also was active in the church's Women's Society. Other community activities included Somers School PTA, Home Demonstration Club, Lady Lions Civil Defense aircraft spotter, Member of the DAR, and judge on the election board.

After moving to Missoula, Sara was an active member of the group of dormitory head residents on the University of Montana campus. She also was active at Grace United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday-school classes and was part of United Methodist Women.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Jane "Minnie" and Weber Kleinhans; her husband, Will; brothers, Paul, Bill and Hank Kleinhans; sisters, Jeannette Koenig Lussier and Letitia Johnson; and a great-grandson, Danny Fine.

She is survived by a son, Ed and wife, Georgia Fine; daughters, Beth and husband, Bill Biddison, and Kathy and John Babcock; sister, Martha Pratt; grandchildren, Mark and wife, Christie Biddison, Ellen and husband, Chuck Knobel, David Fine, Steven Fine, Kimberly Nye, James and wife, Susan Babcock, and Kalli Babcock; great-grandchildren, Sommer and Will Biddison, Sarabeth Knobel, Jordan, Adam and Jacob Fine, Riley, Delaney, and Jacob Babcock.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Epworth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
