Steven James Carlisle, 75

Steven James Carlisle, M.D., 75, of Kalispell, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Ferndale, Wash., after a valiant battle with a lung disease. He was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Thief River Falls, Minn., to William and Helen (Strander) Carlisle.

Steven moved to Ferndale recently to be closer to his family. He was a psychiatrist who had a practice over the years in Kalispell; Longview, Wash.; and Portland, Ore.

He had many interests, which included rock hounding, lapidary, reading, listening to music, and cooking. Steve had a passion for the outdoors including fishing, deep sea diving, kayaking, and a special gift for wildlife photography, which led him to Africa, Galapagos Islands, Hudson Bay, and Antarctica. He donated many of his photographs to hospitals. Steve had a bright, creative, and ever-searching mind, and he accomplished everything he endeavored during his time on earth with a form of excellence.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William.

He is survived by his life partner, Angie Carlisle; son, Bill Carlisle; daughter, Cathy and Larry Omlin; grandchildren, Hannah, Emily, Sarah, Blake and Mark; brothers, Tom and Margaret, Robert and Ruth, and Joseph and Barbara; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family, Paul and Julie Carlisle, Mike and Stacia Symanski, Mary and Pat Ross, Sherrie and Georg Noetzel; and nieces, nephews, and grandchildren of those families.
