Glacier picks up first victory

MISSOULA - Megan Connolly and Abby Connolly both smashed home runs over the left field fence to lift Glacier to a 13-2 Western AA softball victory Thursday over Missoula Sentinel.
In the second game, Missoula Big Sky rallied past Glacier for an 8-5 win.
Megan Connolly opened the game with a solo shot. Abby Connolly followed with a solo homer in the third inning, pushing the Wolfpack on top 5-2.
Glacier (1-4 and 1-1) exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.
"We opened the flood gates in the sixth," Glacier coach Joel Bemis said.
"It was great."
Jesse Compton picked up the victory in the circle.She allowed four hits and struck out eight in going the distance.
Abby Connolly homered in the third inning with one runner on against Big Sky, putting Glacier on top 3-1.
Big Sky came back to tied it at 3-all in the bottom of the fifth, but Glacier went on top 4-3 in the top of the sixth when Kendra Bouley doubled with two outs and scored on a Brittany Brown single up the middle.
Big Sky, however, answered in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles used a two-run homer and a three-run shot to jump in front 8-4.
Glacier added a run in the seventh.
"A real solid day," Bemis said.
"Big Sky will be a top team in the West and we had them against the ropes all night. We hit three home runs today."
