New scammer in Flathead County sheriff's deputies are warning residents about a new phone scam to hit the Valley. Using the guise of a legitimate business, the scammer attempts to trick the victim into divulging personal information. One resident reported receiving a call from a business on East Idaho Street in Kalispell that asked for her birthday so they could deliver a package. The name of a legitimate business shows up on the caller ID, and the name of the business used by the scammer could change, said investigators. Authorities urge people not to give out personal information, such as birthdays, Social Security numbers, and credit card numbers, over the phone.

A 46-year-old Stoner Creek Road woman was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center with possible alcohol poisoning.

A 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of trying to steal video games from a store on U.S. 2 in Evergreen. Later, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing video cables from the same store.

Twin 26-year-old brothers reportedly got into a fistfight on the side of U.S. 2.

A Mountain Drive man said he wanted to fill out a statement about an assault that occurred Sunday.

Deputies responded to Shady Lane, where they found a car in a ditch. A woman said her boyfriend had punched the window out. Whether this occurred before or after the crash is unknown.

Kalispell police

Kalispell police responded to Seventh Avenue West after receiving reports that a man was being beaten, but no one was there when officers arrived. Officers spoke with the victim's roommate, who said the victim may decide to press charges later.

Purses were stolen from vehicles parked in Hutton Ranch Plaza and what was described as somewhere in the Kalispell area.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing a gift card from a store on U.S. 93 North, and a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a pouch of tobacco from a convenience store on Appleway Drive.

A man recently fired from a fast-food restaurant on North Main Street got into a fight there with another man.

A Sherwood Lane resident's mail was opened and spread all across the sidewalk.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls police responded to Diane Road, where a set of car keys was stolen from a residence.

The Somers Fire Department responded to School Addition Road, where a telephone pole caught fire after a man burning grass nearby let his controlled burn get a little bit out of control.
