POLSON - Dakota Peterson threw a no-hitter to guide Polson to a 3-0 victory over Ronan on Tuesday in Class A softball action.

Peterson (7-1) fanned seven batters in going the distance.

Ronan had just two base runners on the day - a hit batter in the first inning and a base on balls in the sixth.

"Very solid," Polson coach Larry Smith said of Peterson's effort.

"Her breaking pitch worked very nice for her. She really kept them off balance."

Ronan never hit the ball out of the infield.

Smith said shortstop Amanda James also had a tremendous defensive game.

"She had several ground ball put-outs," he said.

"She made a spectacular catch on a ball hit in foul territory by third base, a pop blooper. She went into the hole deep to make the play."

Polson, 8-1 overall, scored once in the first, second and fourth innings.

Sarah Newton singled with two outs, stole second, reached third on a passed ball and then scored on a passed ball in the first inning.

Then in the second, Caitlyn Vassar singled to right-center. Charlee Jenson's bunt single advanced Vassar to second. Ronan made an error on SuSan Perez-Tenas' bunt that allowed Vassar to score.

Staci Benson scored Polson's final run. She came home from second on a pop fly caught by Ronan's second baseman in foul territory.

MISSOULA - Jesse Compton was on fire, but Glacier's bats went cold.

Compton fanned 12 Missoula Hellgate batters while allowing just two hits, but the Wolfpack lost a Western AA softball nail-biter.

The Knights' winning run came in the sixth inning following two Wolfpack errors. Hellgate started the frame with two quick outs, but Kaitlyn Horner reached first on a dropped pop-up and scored from second on a double by Jordan Nelson. Horner appeared to be caught stealing second, but Glacier dropped the throw from catcher Brittany Franklin.

"We were hanging right in there with them and we were battling with them and playing great defense, we just had a couple errors," Glacier coach Joel Bemis said.

Brittney Brown, Franklin and Sabrina Kenfield singled for Glacier's three hits.

Glacier recorded a milestone defensive gem as shortstop Brown, second baseman Lindsey Hoffenbacker and first baseman Abby Connolly turned the Wolfpack's first 6-4-3 double play.
