Hellgate sweeps Flathead in softball

MISSOULA - Flathead dropped a softball doubleheader to Missoula Hellgate on Thursday, falling 2-1 and 4-0 to the Knights.

The first game was a Western AA contest and the second was labeled as a non-conference outing.

"They only had one earned run in two games," Flathead coach Dale Beerman said.

"We threw the ball around a little bit."

Flathead had three errors on the day.

Hellgate led 1-0 going into the top of the seventh inning in the first game. Flathead managed to tie it up when Shaina Evans, who walked, scored from third with two outs on an overthrow from the catcher to the pitcher.

Hellgate came right back to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning, thanks to a Flathead error, and then scored the game winner.

"We just struggled," Beerman said.

Beerman said Meagan Hash "threw well today. She has thrown every game, every inning. If we played 21 games, she would pitch 142 innings."

Hellgate had nine hits in the opener and four in the second game. Flathead had a single in each game.

Flathead, 5-5 overall and 2-3 in league, plays a doubleheader today with Glacier starting at 4 p.m. The first game counts as a league contest.
