Sam Tedrow saved his best jump for last.

The Flathead senior landed a personal best 41-foot, 9 1/2 inch triple jump during Thursday afternoon's triangular with Missoula Sentinel and Hellgate.

Tedrow had the event locked up - he went 41-3 on his first try - and second place Zane Reneau of Sentinel had already finished with a 41-1 3/4 effort.

"It's always good to have competition. It makes you go further and better," Tedrow smiled.

Despite having the event in the bag, Tedrow wanted to do better.

"I haven't been getting my second phase down. I've got to hold the knee up, hold it longer. But it felt good," Tedrow said. "It came together. I got the step pretty well," he said.

Tedrow was a part of four firsts on Tuesday - he won the long and triple jumps, then ran legs of the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams.

With Tedrow's help, the Braves scored 97 points to slide easily past second place Sentinel (44 points) and Hellgate (40).

"He's been a workhorse for us," Flathead head coach Dan Hodge said of Tedrow.

"He's running four or five events for us and he had his best triple jump. Sam goes 100 miles per hour all the time," the coach said.

But as a team?

"We've got a ways to go. I had some kids compete hard, but I had some that just participated," he added.

Hodge complimented the efforts of the Flathead sprinters and of distance runner Seth Svennungsen, who finished second in both the 800 and 1,600.

"Seth is working very, very hard and his work is showing because his times are improving," Hodge said.

Bravettes coach Kirtlye Lohof also saw some good things.

Flathead placed second with 46 points. Hellgate won the meet with 94 points and Sentinel scored 40.

"First of all, it's great to have a meet.

"We've had good performances, some good competition. Hellgate and Sentinel we'll see at divisional. It was nice to see what they have to offer," she said.

"With the better weather that we've had, times are starting to come down a little bit. So that's good," Lohof said.

"We competed. That was a good thing - we had people placing in almost every event."

Heidi Windauer won both the 100 and 300 hurdles and anchored the Flathead 1,600 relay team.

Lohof also complimented the effort of Tera Klein, who placed in both the 1,600 and 3,200 and of Bri Ori, who placed in the 800.

Both Flathead varsity teams are off now until Archie Roe on May 3.
