Brush fire

A brush fire burned about two acres east of Riley Lane in western Columbia Falls, threatening several homes Sunday afternoon. The Columbia Falls, Bad Rock, Evergreen and Whitefish fire departments put out the fire while stationing to protect those homes.

Flathead sheriff

Two black bear cubs were found late Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon on Montana 35 East. They were turned over the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, said the Flathead County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies followed an apparently underage woman with a 24-pack of beer from a convenience store to a party on McMannamy Draw on Saturday evening. Party-goers scattered. A 19-year-old man was ticketed on suspicion of possessing alcohol.

A checkbook was stolen on Demersville Road on Saturday afternoon.
