Beatrice Talbot 'Bea' Mapes, 85

Beatrice Talbot "Bea" Mapes passed away in her sleep on Aug. 1, 2008, at the age of 85. Bea was born in Coalhurst, Alberta, to Benjamin and Clara Talbot on May 8, 1923. She later immigrated to Kalispell, where she graduated from Flathead County High School in 1941.

She attended and graduated from the St. Patrick School of Nursing in Missoula, and then became an Army nurse, working with Italian prisoners of war in San Francisco.

Bea married George W. Mapes on Sept. 21, 1945.

Her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters predecease her.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Eyler and Gary of Payson, Ariz., Pam Jones of Glendale, Ariz., and Donald Mapes and Shirley of Prescott, Ariz. She is also survived by her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mona Ostero of Taylor, British Columbia, and Bernice Louden of Kalispell, also survive her.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix.

Bea will be interred at the Veteran's Cemetery in Prescott, at a later date.

Memorial donations in memory of Bea Mapes may be made to the El Zaribah Shrine's Hospital Program for Children, c/o El Zaribah Shrine, 552 N. 40th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008; or Northminster Presbyterian Church.
