Roger A. Heck, 76

Roger A. Heck, 76, died peacefully Aug. 25, 2008, at the home of his son, surrounded by family. He was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Freeport, Ill., to Leo and Nettie Heck.

He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force in Korea, spent 20 years at Micro Switch, moved his family to California in 1970, retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992, and built a home in Kalispell in 2005.

He was known to his friends as "Rocky" and as "Gramps" to his grandkids.

He loved playing cribbage, shooting pool, fishing, playing poker, horseshoes, camping, and being with his family.

"He was not only our Dad, he was our best friend since mom died."

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Gene, Ab, Keith, and Rosellen.

He is survived by his son, Dennis, and Kristen Heck, of Kalispell; and daughters, Mary Jo Seitz, Dawn and Don Schuerkamp, and Debbie and Raul Vasquez of Sacramento, Calif. He was "Gramps" to James, Selena, and Nick of Sacramento, and Tessa and Talia of Kalispell. He also leaves behind his brother, Don, and Peg Heck, of Wasilla, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home, 525 Main St., Kalispell, MT 59901. A celebration of his life will be held after the service at the home of Dennis and Kristen Heck.
