Robert 'Bob' Andrew Modie, 88

Robert "Bob" Andrew Modie, 88, passed away at his home in Kalispell on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. Bob was born to Frank and Dorathea Modie on July 5, 1920, on a farm just east of Kansas City, Mo.

He attended a one-room schoolhouse four miles from home and later graduated from Odessa High School.

Bob moved to San Diego and worked in the defense industry.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the U.S. and European theaters during and following World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1948 and enrolled in San Diego State University to prepare for medical school.

He attended the University of Southern California medical school in 1952 and graduated in 1956.

During his residency at Los Angeles County General Hospital, he met and married Sally Tipton on July 21, 1961. They moved to Lancaster, Calif., where they started their family with Troy and Nicole. Bob worked as chief of medical staff at a Los Angeles County hospital and retired in 1979.

Bob and his family moved to Kalispell in 1979 where Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking in Glacier Park and the Jewel Basin. He enjoyed meeting friends for coffee during his retirement and was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sally Modie, of Kalispell; son, Troy Modie and his wife, Toni, of Kalispell; daughter, Nicole Modie, of Kalispell; and six grandchildren, William Schafer, Desiree Modie, Jaylin Modie, Tyler Modie, Matthew Modie and Jillian Modie.

A memorial service for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Cutler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Bob's name to Trinity Lutheran Church Missions Fund.
