Flathead Valley Community College course enrollment grew by almost 8 percent during the fall semester.

Faith Hodges, director of enrollment, planning and research, presented the enrollment report at the December meeting of the board of trustees.

College President Jane Karas attributed the increase to new programs, facilities, Web site and marketing tactics.

Karas said she expects the trend to continue since college enrollment traditionally increases during poor economic conditions.

In other business at the meeting, trustees granted sabbatical leave requests to Brenda Rudolph, office technology, business and allied health instructor, and Lowell Jaeger, English instructor.

The board approved the Institutional Technology Computer Numerical Control Certificate of Applied Science degree. Local employers requested this training for unfilled positions.

Trustees meet next on Jan. 26.
