Clare Frankel, 95

Clare Frankel, 95, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at Brendan House in Kalispell, Montana.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1912 in Komenety Podulsk, Russia and was raised in New York City, New York. She graduated from high school, and then attended a secretarial school.

Clare married Sol Frankel in 1934 in New York City. They were married for 56 years before Sol passed away.

She served for many years on the board of directors of Cancer Care, a charity in New York; managed Cancer Care Thrift Shop in Far Rockaway, N.Y.; and served with the Jewish Community Bet Harim in annual holiday celebrations for Samaritan House shelter residents. She loved knitting, cooking, and especially family activities. Clare was a 'people person'. She loved music, concerts, theatre and attended many Glacier Symphony and Whitefish Theatre Company events. She lived in happy fellowship at Glacier Manor, 506 1st Ave. West in Kalispell, for the past nine years.

Clare was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Sol on Dec. 19, 1990.

She is survived by her son Stephen Frankel of Teaneck, New Jersey; a daughter Nina Levitt and her husband Stuart of Kalispell; grandchildren, Damon Treitler, Qing Treitler and Felix Treitler, all of Boston, Renay Frankel and Lauren Frankel of Boston, and Matthew Frankel, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and nieces Maddy Shapiro and Sandra Paley. Clare was anticipating her first great-grandchild this April 2008.

Burial will be next to her husband at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, in Flushing, New York, Wednesday Feb. 13, 2008. A memorial service will be held at Glacier Unitarian Universalist Church on Trumble Creek Road, at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2008.

Her life will be celebrated by all her friends and the congregation of Bet Harim at that time. All are invited. The family asks that memorials in Clare's name be made to the Jewish Community of the Flathead, Bet Harim, P.O. Box 364, Kalispell, Montana 59903-0364.
