Monty Gordon Gossett, 55, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Evergreen Polson Health & Rehabilitation Center in Polson.

He was born on Oct.12,1952, in Lubbock, Texas, the son of L.E. and Billie (Ray) Gossett. At age 4, he moved to Chowchilla, Calif., residing there for 18 years. He attended school in Chowchilla, graduating in 1970. He then attended Fresno City College for three years, graduating with an associate of arts degree.

He played Little League baseball in both grade school and high school. He also belonged to the high school chess club.

While in school, he worked in Glacier National Park and fell in love with Montana. He promised himself he would live in Montana. Since then, he has visited Glacier Park many times.

In 1986, he went to northwest of Havre part-time and worked at KAGM/KPQX radio station, where he met his good friend Phlash Phelps. He is one of the first disc jockeys to work on XM Satellite Radio.

Monty was introduced to the love of his life in 1989 by his future mother-in-law. He was married to Tammy Lynn Messier (Hardgrove) on Feb.17,1990, at Central Christian Church in Kalispell.

'He is the best dad in the world and has the biggest heart,' and in 1991 he became the best dad to Katie and Travis. In 1994, 'God blessed Tammy and Monty with a miracle child' named Makayla Roberta.

He loved Glacier Park, Swift Current, the Amateur Radio Broadcast Radio, NASCAR and football — especially the Denver Broncos when they won back-to-back Super Bowls in 1998 and 1999. He enjoyed swimming at Woodland Park pool with his children.

He was also a long-time member of the Church of Christ. He loved his church family very much.

Monty was preceded in death by his dad and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy, of the family home; his three children, Katie, Travis and Makayla Roberta; his mother, Billie, of Kalispell; a brother, Ronald Scott and wife, Camille, of Forks, Wash.; and one niece, Kacey Scott, of Kalispell.

Funeral services for Monty will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Milton Caraway officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Military honors will follow services conducted by the United Veterans of the Flathead.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to Fort Harrison Liberty House, Helena, MT 59636 or to the Kalispell Food Bank, 105 Sixth Ave. W., Kalispell, MT 59901.
