A private airplane's right wheel hit a snowdrift and then a landing light before spinning to a stop in the snow at the Kalispell City Airport Sunday afternoon.

Neither the pilot nor passenger were injured, said airport director Fred Leistiko.

The Cherokee Six 300 Series plane was headed south as it landed on the runway at about 1:30 p.m.

The plane's right landing gear touched the snowy ground a couple of feet to the right of the snow-free runway, lifted up and then touched down again on the snowy ground. Then the wheel hit a small snow drift and then a landing light a few feet farther along.

That tore off the right landing gear. The plane's nose spun about 100 degrees to the left, while the fuselage skidded farther right off the runway. The plane stopped about 50 feet beyond the destroyed landing light.

The airport was closed to air traffic for much of Sunday afternoon while the plane was hauled to the nearby Red Eagle Aviation complex.

An injured eagle was found on Wapiti Meadows Road Saturday afternoon and was turned over to the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, the Flathead County Sheriff's Office reported.

Someone stole cat food, kitty litter and laundry from a home on Airport Road early Saturday evening.

A deputy ticketed a shoplifter at a department store on Saturday evening.

Skis and poles were stolen at the Big Mountain resort Sunday afternoon.
