Robert George Holcomb, 82

Robert George Holcomb, 82, passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at Crestwood Convalescent Home in Sequim, Wash.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1925, in Bismarck, N.D., the son of George and Maggie (Hall) Holcomb. He was the 11th child of 13, and was the last surviving sibling.

He married Marion 'Mary' Lucille Mellem on Dec. 4, 1943.

He entered the U.S. Army in January 1944, into the Army Corps of Engineers. He served in World War II, was wounded and returned to service. He earned several medals and ribbons. After serving two years and being honorably discharged he returned to Montana, working in the timber industry, and Anaconda Aluminum Company, where he retired from.

He was married to Mary for 36 years, until her death. He then relocated to Sequim in 1982. He married Katherine 'Kay' Eunice Redman in 1989. They were married for 14 years until her death.

He was preceded in death by 10 sisters; two brothers; his first wife, Mary, and second wife, Kay.

He is survived by his son, Robert E. Holcomb, of Vashon Island, Wash.; his daughter, Dorthy 'Dolly' Poe, of Port Angeles, Wash.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Robert will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor John Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Glacier Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the United Veterans of the Flathead.
