MISSOULA - The Bravettes could not overcome the loss of two starters Tuesday and struggled offensively in falling to Missoula Sentinel 50-47 in a Western AA girls' basketball game.

It was the conference opener for Flathead High School. The Bravettes (4-3 overall) were outscored by Sentinel 18-10 in the final frame.

The Bravettes held a 24-23 lead at the half and took a 37-32 advantage into the final eight minutes of play.

"They battled right to the end," Flathead coach Kim Elliott said.

Ashley Younkin and Ashlea Vaudt are both nursing sore knees. Younkin did not play in this contest while Vaudt injured her knee early in the first quarter.

"That hurt us because our post presence wasn't the same," Elliott said.

Elliott said the Bravettes shot just 26 percent from the field. He said they also missed 10 layups.

Sentinel held a 38-33 edge on the boards. Kaylyn Heaton had 10 rebounds for FHS and Kendalyn Habel had nine.

Meghan O'Connell paced Flathead offensively with 17 points. Habel was next with 16.
