Oluf J. Salmonsen, 53, of Troy, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, under hospice care at Health Center Northwest in Kalispell.

He was born Feb. 10, 1954, in Hardtner, Kan., a son of Carl and Inge Salmonsen. Oluf graduated from Flathead High School in 1972.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1973 and served until receiving his honorable discharge in 1976.

Oluf enjoyed tinkering with anything he could, and trading junk for treasures. He somehow always came out on top. Oluf had many places he called home but he found his true place in the Yaak where he had many great friends and memories. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, being outdoors, playing cribbage, and watching the Denver Broncos.

Oluf was preceded in death by his father, Carl Salmonsen.

He is survived by his mother, Inge Salmonsen, of Kalispell; his former wife, Terry Hemmah, also of Kalispell; and their two sons, Nathan Salmonsen and wife Kelly, and Jason Salmonsen and wife Susan; four grandchildren, Alexandra, Brantly, Conner and Kendra, all of Kalispell; two brothers, Lee Salmonsen and wife Sue of Portland, Ore., and Peter Salmonsen and wife Lori of Hillsboro, Ore.; one sister, Halie Locke, and husband John, of Portland; also nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services for Oluf will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel with Bob Nelson, pastor of the Calvary Lutheran Church, officiating. A celebration of his life will take place at the Eagles following the memorial service. There will be no visitation.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Home Options Hospice at 175 Commons Loop, Suite 100, Kalispell, MT 59901.
