PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Grilley, C-Falls corral Glacier

Chase Grilley scored 20 points and Mackey Nolan added 15 to help lead the Class A Wildcats over Class AA Glacier in the schools' first ever meeting on Friday at Glacier.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 19-10 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

"We handled their pressure OK, but we just weren't ready for their speed on offense and they ended up knocking down a bunch of shots early," Glacier assistant coach Andy Fors said. "They hit five of 11 3-pointers in the first half."

Zane Ridings and Nolan each hit two 3-pointers and Grilley added another.

Neither team shot particularly well. Columbia Falls made 37 percent of its shots. Glacier made 32 percent.

The victory improved Columbia Falls to 7-3 on the season.

Glacier, which nearly matched C-Falls point-for-point in the second half, was led by Ben Cutler's 20 points. He hit three 3-pointers. Mike Rasmussen and Shay Smithwick-Hann added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Glacier dropped to 2-7.

Ronan 62, St. Ignatius 31

RONAN - A balanced offensive attack, led by Moss Tanner's 18 points, powered Ronan to a nonconference victory over St. Ignatius.

Makenzy Kelch and Nolan Harris finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

After a slow start - Ronan led 9-4 after the first quarter - the Chiefs rolled up 20 points in the second quarter for a 29-12 halftime lead.

Jorren Geis led St. Ignatius with 10 points.

POLSON - Corvallis and Polson both finished with 20 field goals, but the Blue Devils had eight treys to one of the hosting Pirates and that was the big difference in the contest.

Rod Anderson drained four 3-point goals en route to a 16-point game, giving Corvallis the nonconference victory.

Matt Smith also tallied 16 points for the victors.

John Rausch had 11 points to lead Polson. He had the team's lone trey.

Corvallis shot 57 percent from the field to Polson's 37 percent.

Thompson Falls 76, Eureka 52

EUREKA - Thompson Falls took advantage of Eureka's foul trouble in rolling to a District 8-B victory.

Thompson Falls hit 23 of 30 foul shots.

Eureka was also without two starters (injury and discipline).

Eureka out-rebounded Thompson Falls 37-29. Marcus Pluid finished with 12 rebounds and 12 points.

Luke Truman pulled down 10 rebounds.

Tanner Newell led Eureka with 16 points.

Thompson Falls' Brandon Damaskes led all scorers with 18 points.

Polson 37, Corvallis 26

CORVALLIS - Polson used a strong second half and balanced scoring to stop Corvallis in a nonconference basketball contest.

Polson outscored Corvallis 24-17 in the final half.

Jessica Buckless and Amanda James each chipped in eight points for the Pirates, while Rochelle Woods and Merilee Mowbray each scored seven.

The halftime score was just 12-9 in favor of Polson, but the Pirates put together an 11-4 run in the third quarter to take the advantage.

Whitney Henderson scored 10 points to lead Corvallis.
