Meade qualifies for U.S. team trials in taekwondo

Big Sky Martial Arts Black Belt competitor Lindsey Meade will compete in the U.S. National Team Trials for taekwondo in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 4.

Meade qualified for the event by placing second in the Light Middle Weight Division at the Junior Worlds Qualifying Tournament at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Jan. 5-6 with a 3-1 record.

Meade won her first (8-1), second (12-8) and third (10-3) matches before falling in the fourth round (11-10).

Junior Worlds is a pre-qualifying event open to all Black Belt male and female athletes between the ages of 14-17. The top four placers move on to U.S. National Team Trials in Des Moines. The winner of team trials will secure a spot on the U.S. National team and travel to Izmir, Turkey, for World Championships set for May 8-11.

Also competing at Junior Worlds from Big Sky Martial Arts were Kendra Hedges and Irie Anderson. Hedges lost her match (8-6) in the Welter Weight Division. Anderson dropped his match (8-1) in the Bantam Weight Division.
