Rita Mae Damon, 80

Former Kalispell resident Rita Mae Damon, 80, of Great Falls, who owned the Mint Bar in Kalispell for many years, died of lung cancer Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at a local care facility.

Rita was born Jan. 28, 1927, the daughter of Nelson N. and Anna (Belgard) Ford, in Helena. She lived her younger years in Helena and then in Great Falls.

She married Henry 'Jacko' Damon, and they moved to Kalispell, where they bought the Mint Bar, which they operated for many years. They later sold the Mint, and continued to live in Kalispell until Jacko passed away. Later she was unable to care for herself so she moved to Great Falls three years ago.

Rita loved bingo, dogs, animals and enjoyed crocheting.

Survivors include three stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacko Damon; and three stepchildren.

Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Hillcrest Lawn Chapel in Great Falls. Burial of ashes will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery at a later date. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
