Calvin K. Johnson, 74

Calvin K. Johnson, 74, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at his residence in Lakeside. He was born June 19, 1933, in Hoquiam, Wash., to Calvin A. and Klea Sadie (Sinclair) Johnson.

Calvin moved with his family to Pacific Beach, Wash., where he received his early education and attended one year at Washington State University. He met Schell Bennett in Brookings, Ore., and after a two-year courtship they were married July 16, 1954, in Denver, where Calvin was stationed with the U.S. Air Force.

Calvin enlisted in the Air Force on Nov. 18, 1953, and separated Aug. 9, 1957, after honorably serving his country.

The couple moved back to Brookings, where they raised their two sons. From 1970 to 1993, the family moved with Calvin's job to Coquille, Ore., Myrtle Creek, Ore., Missoula, and to Port Angeles, Wash., before retiring in Lakeside.

Calvin always loved the outdoors - to hunt, fish, and in the early years, dig for clams. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions throughout the years.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond.

He is survived by his wife, Schell Johnson, of Lakeside; two sons, Randall Johnson of Kalispell, and Kevin Johnson of Frenchtown; a sister, Maxine Hearing, of Belleview, Wash.; and two nieces, two nephews and one granddaughter.

Graveside services for Calvin will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Lakeview Cemetery in Polson. Military honors will be by the American Legion and VFW Veterans Honor Guard.
