Shannon Smith, activities director at Bigfork High School, has announced the hiring of three head coaches - Hauna Trenerry, girls' soccer; Yvonne Peck, volleyball; and Mark Hanson, girls' basketball.

Trenerry was an all-state soccer player at Columbia Falls High School and played college soccer for Carroll. She has been an assistant soccer coach at Columbia Falls where her father, Greg, is the head coach. Trenerry teaches Spanish at BHS.

Peck returns to the bench for the Valkyries after a one-year break. She stepped down after the 2006 season to pursue a master's degree.

"Her reason for doing it is truly noble," Smith said of Peck's return.

"She wants the kids to have a good, quality program."

Kelsey Jensen resigned after the season.

Hanson is a former head boys' basketball coach at Bigfork. He directed the Vikings from 1996-2001. He has been an assistant boys' basketball coach for the past two years under Jim Epperly.

"It will be a good transition for the girls," Smith said of Hanson's hire.

"He cares about the kids."

"I'm looking forward to heading a program," Hanson said.

"One of my goals was to become a head coach again."

Hanson said there is a good group of talented girls coming back.

"He (Nate Hammond) left the program in good shape," Hanson said.

Hammond resigned in April. He guided the Valkyries to back-to-back Northwestern A titles and state tournament appearances.

Smith turned in his resignation as activities director earlier this month. He has accepted a teaching position at Glacier High School and will be an assistant football coach with the Wolfpack.

Smith spent two years in Bigfork. Prior to that, he taught and coached at Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colo.

Smith is a former Flathead High School graduate.

"It was two enjoyable years," Smith said.

"The community was great and very supportive. I will definitely miss the Bigfork kids."
