The Kalispell City Council will discuss on Nov. 10 the salary range and methods to hunt for a new city manager.

The council discussed recommendations made by Interim City Manager Myrt Webb at Monday's workshop session.

The new manager will replace Jim Patrick, whom the council fired last month as city manager because of philosophical and style differences.

Council members agreed with Webb not to hire a consultant, contending that a consultant won't add much to the hiring process.

Next Monday, the council also will discuss how to winnow the expected applications to 10 semifinalists for phone interviews. Webb and council members are leaning toward having the full council interview the three to five finalists in person.

The process probably will involve a search committee of 10 to 15 people.

Mayor Pam Kennedy and council members Kari Gabriel and Duane Larson volunteered Monday to be the council representatives.

The search is expected to take four to six months.
