Libby claims regular season championship

LIBBY - The Libby Loggers closed out their second straight Northwestern A regular season championship Saturday night with a 26-24, 25-12, 25-22 sweep of the Ronan Maidens.

Jackie Mee led Libby with nine kills, two blocks, 15 digs and seven service aces.

The Loggers (9-1) open Northwestern A divisional play at 11 a.m. Friday against the winner of Columbia Falls/Whitefish.

"It's been a good season. I didn't know what was going to happen," said Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston.

The Loggers returned just two players with very much varsity experience.

"We celebrated and had a good senior night," she said.

"Now it's time for the second season on Monday."

Bigfork 3, Hamilton 0

BIGFORK - Roxie Thurman had 10 kills and a block, Mallery Knoll added 13 digs as the Bigfork Valkyries swept nonconference foe Hamilton on Saturday night.

Scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-19.

The Vals (8-2, 11-2) finished second in the Northwestern A.

They meet the winner of Polson/Ronan at 1 p.m. Friday at the divisional tournament.

"It felt pretty good. I felt our kids came out and played pretty well," said Bigfork coach Yvonne Peck.

"It got a little sloppy at times, but we regrouped pretty well," she said.

Hamilton has a fairly tall team, she said.

"But we were able to get around the block and through the block pretty successfully," Peck said.
