Linda 'Kemmie' Aasheim, 67

| November 14, 2008 1:00 AM

Linda "Kemmie" Aasheim, 67, of Lakeside, passed away early Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Kalispell from pancreatic cancer.

In 2002, with her husband, Glen, she retired to Montana, the state of her birth and the place she dearly loved.

Kemmie was born in Chester on Aug. 31, 1941, and spent her childhood there.

She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Montana in Missoula. While a student, her lifelong leadership skills began with life in the Alpha Phi sorority, and as president of Associated Women's Students, Junior Sponsor, and many other student organizations.

She met Glen in college and they were married in June of 1964. They moved to several military locations following Glen's medical education and training before settling in Tacoma, Wash. There they raised their family and Kemmie continued her education by earning a master's degree at Pacific Lutheran University.

Kemmie worked at Tacoma Community College, followed by several years as dean of instruction at Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash., a position from which she retired. She loved her work with the students as she helped to prepare them for a more productive life. She often remarked how her position gave her a lot of self-satisfaction, and she felt more productive because she didn't need the job so she could more freely speak her mind and was more able to help those she worked with. She had a lot of success making people realize their potential.

Kemmie's sons, David, Daniel and Jesse, were very important to her and she enjoyed her role as mom. She did feel the best was yet to be discovered, which came to her as grandchildren! Carly, Olivia, Ben and Lucille were her lights and they are her legacy.

Her hobbies were quilting, gardening, horseback riding, reading and cooking. She was most generous with what she created and also very skilled.

She was very active in Lakeside community activities. Among the many were the West Shore Food Bank board, the West Shore Community Library board, and Lakeside Community Club past president.

Kemmie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Glen, of Lakeside; sons, David and MarySue of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dan of Los Angeles, and Jesse and Brigid of Los Angeles; and grandchildren, Carly and Olivia of Scottsdale, Ben of Los Angeles, and Lucille of Los Angeles. She also leaves behind her brothers, Gordon and Joyce Kammerzell of Lakeside, and John and Frances Kammerzell of Chester; a sister, Kay and John Warner, of Helena; brother-in-law, Gary Aasheim and Peggy, of Billings; mother-in-law, Velma Aasheim, of Kalispell; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.C. and Lucille Kammerzell; sister, Gail Nussbaum; and daughter-in-law, Becca Aasheim.

A memorial service honoring Kemmie will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 24, at the Lakeside Community Chapel in Lakeside. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials in her name can be made to the West Shore Food Bank, P.O. Box 192, Lakeside, MT 59922.
