HELENA - Unlike the day before, Friday was a good one for Glacier boys soccer.

Following a lopsided 5-1 loss on Thursday versus Helena High, the Wolfpack responded with a strong defensive performance against Helena Capital. The game ended in a contentious 0-0 tie, but Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke was more than happy with his team's play.

"I'm very proud of the way we responded to yesterday's game," O'Rourke said. "The whole defense played very well today."

The Wolfpack (3-4-2) were able to fire off only four shots on goal. On the other end of the field, Glacier goalie Kasey Haugan came up with four saves.

The next match for Glacier is Thursday at home against Missoula Hellgate. But for now, O'Rourke is relishing his team's time in Helena.

"It was a good day for soccer," he said.

Glacier 1,

Helena Capital 1

HELENA - Maddie Frey scored her third goal in two days and the Glacier girls soccer team tied Helena Capital.

The Wolfpack took five shots for the match, but it was Frey's unassisted goal that made the net. Meanwhile, Helena took twice as many shots, but Glacier goalie Kayla Byle stopped all but one.

"It was a tough game," said Glacier coach Paul Holmgren. "We were a little tired. Capital is a pretty physical team."

Capital got caught with eight fouls and two yellow cards, but Holmgren's squad kept its composure.

Glacier (3-4-2) hosts Hellgate on Thursday, and in order to get back in the win column, Holmgren said his team will need to work on its offense.

"We're going to need to move the ball better," he said, adding his defense is playing well.

Whitefish's Hannah Long, in her first action this season, scored her first goal. Karly Lengstorf had two goals for the Lady Bulldogs, and Kelsey McCluskey had a goal and an assist.

"When the kids got in the groove, they really started finding the net and did a nice job," Reading said.
