Glacier off to fast start in boys golf

Iverson cards 71 to pace Wolfpack
It was all Glacier during opening-round play Friday at the Flatfish Invitational boys golf tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Larry Iverson shot a 71 to pace the Wolfpack, who had five golfers break 80. As a result, Glacier dipped below the 300-mark in team scoring with a field-best score of 299.
Iverson was the runner-up in this event last year.
Great Falls C.M. Russell, 314, is second with Whitefish, 315, holding down third place.
Polson, 348, is seventh and Flathead, 353, is ninth.
Trey Griffith had the second-best round for Glacier with a 74. That also tied him with Reed Platke of Whitefish and Aaron Remus of CMR for second place.
Glacier's Grahm Schmaltz shot 76, Justin Newton 78 and Aaron Young 79.
Ian Gillespie and Chris Holguin both shot 84 to lead Flathead.
Polson's Tyler Engebretsen also fired an 84.
Natalie Beard of CMR fired the best round in girls play at Village Greens Golf Course, carding a 6-over-par 76.
She shot an even par 35 on the front nine.
One shot back were Kelton Enich of Missoula Big Sky and Morgan Lee of Great Falls High.
Lee is the defending champion.
Natalie Arlint, 78, is tied for fourth with Taisha Bell of CMR.
Julia DiGiallonardo of Polson and BreAnna Cameron of Whitefish both shot 81, which ties them for sixth place.
Glacier's Karli Aurich turned in an 84, which put her in the 10th spot.
Flathead was led by Calli Toth, who shot 87. That tied her with two other players for 13th.
CMR leads the team standings with a 322. Polson is second, 335, followed by Whitefish, 341, and Glacier, 365.
Flathead is holding down sixth place, 382.
Tournament play winds up today with the girls at Whitefish Lake Golf Club and the boys at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.
