Helena tourney rescheduled for Monday, Tuesday

The Class AA state golf tournament, scheduled for today and Friday in Helena at Green Meadow Country Club, has been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

The event was postponed because of Friday's weather forecast in Helena - a 70 percent chance of rain/snow with a high temperature of 35 and a low of 29. That would have delayed the competition, according to a press release from the Montana High School Association.

Saturday's forecast calls for a 40 percent change of precipitation with a temperature range of 38 to 26.

"We found out about 8 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) when the bus was ready to pick us up," Flathead coach Kim Elliott said.

"We were ready to go."

Elliott said Flathead activities director Frank Jobe informed Elliott, and the team, that the event had been postponed.

"The kids are disappointed," Elliott said.

"Let's go, let's do it (was their attitude).

"But the same thing happened to us last year, so we've been there before."

Bozeman hosted the 2007 AA state tournament, which was delayed a few days because of the weather.

"Temperatures were cold," Elliott said.

"The snow was predicted to stick."

So, 2008 state play will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday at 9 a.m. The forecast is for temperatures in the mid-50s both days with mostly sunny skies Monday and a partly cloudy Tuesday.

Glacier and Billings West were co-champions last year in Bozeman in the boys field.

Bozeman won the girls title.
