Iverson's 66 best round in state golf

HELENA - The five-day delay sure didn't bother Larry Iverson.
The Glacier senior shot a 6-under 66 Tuesday to take the first-day lead in medalist play at the Class AA state golf tournament at Green Meadow Country Club.
The tournament was originally scheduled for last Thursday and Friday, but was delayed because of winter-like weather not once, but twice.
Iverson was the lone Wolfpack player to crack the top 10. Justin Newton had the second best round for Glacier, carding a 77. Trey Griffith followed with a 79.
Aaron Young and Grahm Schmaltz both shot 81.
As a result, Glacier is sitting in third place with a 303 total.
Iverson is the defending state champ in individual play. He won last year's title by 10 strokes.
Glacier and Billings West shared the team title in 2007.
Billings Senior and West are currently tied for first with 298 scores. Missoula Sentinel is fourth, 316.
Flathead is 13th, 343.
Jake Hedge of Billings West was the only other golfer to break par on the first day. He came in with a 71.
Teammate Brandon McInver matched par and is sitting third.
Ian Hineman shot an 82 for Flathead's best individual effort.
In girls play, Alexa Bell shot a 76 to help put Great Falls C.M. Russell in the lead with a 324 score.
Glacier's Karli Aurich is tied with four other players for second place. They all shot 81.
Bell finished fourth last year at state, while Aurich was seventh.
Billings West, 352 is second, Bozeman, 356, third, and Glacier, 372, fourth.
Bozeman is the defending champion.
Glacier had two more players break 100 - Kaylee Archer, 95, and Elsie Satterfield, 96.
Flathead, 397, is 12th. The Bravettes were led by Sarah Cunningham, 94, and Julia Bechtold, 99.
The tournament ends today.
