Audrey Claire Davis, 79
Audrey Claire Davis, 79, passed away on Oct. 15, 2008, at Edgewood Vista senior living facility in Kalispell. She was born April 26, 1929, in Long Island, N.Y., to Wayne and Gertrude Curtis.
Audrey spent most of her life growing up in the small community of Moscow, Pa. A great interest then and throughout her life was horses. She always loved riding, watching and being around them. During the summers of her high school years, she and her sister Joan were waitresses at the very exclusive Pocono Manor Resort in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. A number of interesting stories have been told about summer exploits there.
Audrey met William "Bill" Davis in 1947. She enjoyed flying in the small planes that he and his brothers had at the airport they operated in the area shortly after the war. Audrey and Bill were married Oct. 14, 1950, in Moscow. They had two children - a son, Kim, and a daughter, Barbara.
Audrey liked to travel and camp. The Davis family began camping vacations in the 1950s when camping was a little more primitive than it is today. During the earlier years, they traveled a great deal in the eastern part of the country. When the children were raised, Audrey and Bill traveled extensively in the western part of the U.S. Ten years of trips to Mexico were a highlight of her life, along with numerous visits to the islands of St. John and Tortola in the Caribbean. Audrey also enjoyed many great day and overnight trips into Glacier Park. Starting in the early 1990s, Audrey and Bill began the life of snowbirds, splitting their time between Montana and Florida.
Audrey was active in the community through the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Brownies, Cub Scouts, and 4-H. She was an avid reader and clothes shopper, pursuing these interests with great enthusiasm.
Audrey loved having family and friends around and enjoyed hearing all about what was going on in their lives. Large gatherings for holiday meals were a common occurrence in her home.
Her parents preceded Audrey in death.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Davis, of Kalispell; a daughter, Barbara Davis Hinkley, and her husband, Tom, of Orlando, Fla.; a son, W. Kim Davis, and his wife, Janet, of Kalispell; her grandchildren, Chelsea Vincent of Orlando, and Chloe Googe and her husband, Jason, of Honolulu, Hawaii; and her sister, Joan Diorio, of Moscow.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home, with Pastor Ed Koteskey officiating.
