Helen V. Meyer, 99

Helen V. Meyer, 99, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. She was born in Foxholm, N.D., to James C. and Esta (Grantham) Vogt on June 26, 1909. Helen was raised in Chadron, Neb., where she graduated from the Nebraska Teachers College.

She then taught school in Nebraska, Wyoming, and in Montana at Swan River and Ferndale schools. She taught for more than 30 years before retiring.

Helen married Eldred Meyer on June 26, 1929, in Hot Springs, S.D.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Ferndale Sewing Circle.

Helen loved and enjoyed her family, remembering all their birthdays and special events, giving cards and gifts. She made quilts for her grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren. She wrote letters and cards with words of support and encouragement for grandchildren who were away from home.

She always kept busy with gardening, canning, quilting, crafting and keeping up with family activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldred, of 72 years; and sisters, Grace Sellers, and Marjorie Freeland.

Helen is survived by her children, Neil Meyer and wife, Dixie, of Salmon Prairie, Jim Meyer of Ferndale, and Marlene Haveman of Seeley Lake; brother, James Vogt, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, Pam Hamilton, Gerri Dellwo, Les Meyer, Vicki, Patti, Bill and Jim Bartlett, Julie Meyer, Lili Wood, Jennie Stupack, Todd, Darlene, Michael, Paula and Kenzie Meyer; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at the Little Brown Church in Bigfork. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be afterward at Lone Pine Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ferndale Fire Department or to the Ferndale Sewing Circle.
