Hedge, Iverson lead tournament

HELENA - A new tournament, but the same two teams and individuals are battling again for the top spots in boys' play.

Jake Hedge of Billings West shot a 69, the best individual round Thursday, to help West hold down first place in the team standings with a 294 total at the Helena Invitational golf tournament.

Larry Iverson, 71, Grahm Schmaltz, 73, and Aaron Young, 74, had the next three best scores, allowing Glacier to stay close with a 296. Billings Senior is third, 309.

The Flathead boys are seventh, 338. Ian Hineman shot a 79 to pace the Braves.

Iverson beat Hedge by four strokes at the Great Falls Invitational last week for medalist honors. Glacier also beat West for the team trophy by 13 strokes.

West, 315, comfortably leads the team battle in girls' play, with Glacier well back in second, 364.

Sarah Much of Missoula Sentinel had the best individual round, firing an 80. Glacier's Karli Aurich is two shots back.

Flathead is sitting fifth, 388. Calli Toth's 90 was the best round shot by a Bravette.

Tournament play continues today.

Whitefish boys, girls win team titles in golf

RONAN - Whitefish snapped up team titles in boys' and girls' play, while golfers from Glacier JV and Polson collected individual medalist honors Thursday at the Ronan Invitational.

The Whitefish boys, with a 310 total, won by 17 strokes and were led by Reed Platke's 76 and Joel Mallams' 77.

Jake Miller of Glacier JV, however, had the best round with a 75. Glacier JV finished second, 327.

The Whitefish girls, 341, edged Polson by six strokes to claim the team title. Julia DiGiallonardo of Polson was the medalist with a 79.

Quinn Micklewright, Breann Cameron and Kiley McConnell, all of Whitefish, finished second, third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 81, 82 and 84.
