Whitefish boys roll by Bigfork

BIGFORK - It was all Whitefish.

Seven different Bulldogs scored goals while five players were credited with assists in the Northern A boys' soccer match on Thursday.

Jake Steele, Travis Adams and Fedrico Sau scored two goals each.

Whitefish led 4-0 at the break.

The Bulldogs (3-0-1 overall, 1-0-0 league) had a big edge in shots on goal, 21-5, and in corner kicks, 7-1.

"We're starting to really jell offensively," Whitefish coach O'Brien Bryd said.

"It was a great first conference game. We're looking forward to our next conference game on Tuesday (hosting Polson)."

Caitlin Charlebois gave Bigfork the early lead, scoring at 11:45.

Whitefish tied it eight minutes later on a goal by Merideth Reed. Kelsey McCluskey, on a direct kick, had the game winner at 53:30.

"We had a lot of chances, we just didn't finish," Bigfork coach Hauna Trenerry said.

"The kids played hard."

Whitefish had 19 shots on goal to Bigfork's seven.

Whitefish also ruled in corner kicks 7-1.

"It was a physical game," Trenerry said.

"We won a lot of balls, played some pretty good soccer at times. We're getting there."

Trenerry said Becca Dennig had a strong game in goal.

"Our keeper did a really good job for us," Trenerry said.

"She commanded the box, took control, and made a lot of really great saves. She worked well with the defense."

Bigfork (0-3 overall, 0-1 league) hosts Frenchtown on Saturday, 11 a.m.

Whitefish (3-1-0, 1-0-0) plays at Hamilton on Saturday.

"Hats off to Bigfork," Whitefish coach Lini Reading said.

"Hauna has done a really good job with them. They worked so hard all over the field. They did a great job."
