Libby zaps C-Falls in soccer

COLUMBIA FALLS - Anna Valentine scored three goals and Jenny Johnson added another as Libby defeated Columbia Falls 4-0 Friday in a Northern A girls' soccer match.

Valentine's first two goals were seven-minutes apart and gave Libby a 2-0 edge at the half. Her final one came with two minutes left in the match.

Libby dominated play offensively, finishing with 20 shots on goal. Columbia Falls was limited to nine.

Niesha Thompson had 12 keeper saves for Columbia Falls.

"We came out real flat," Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said.

"Bottom line is they won most of the balls, give them credit. They wanted it more than we did. They are a big, strong, fast team."

Columbia Falls, 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league, entertains Whitefish on Thursday.

Libby (3-1 and 2-0) hosts Stevensville this afternoon in nonconference play.

Columbia Falls had more shots on goal, but visiting Libby had what counted most - more goals - in getting the Northern A conference victory.

Columbia Falls, 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league, outshot Libby 14-11 on goal.

The Loggers scored seven minutes into the match and added an own goal at 74 minutes.

"We dominated play," Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said.

"At times we played very good soccer.

"Libby is just a relentless team, just kicks and runs, kicks and runs," he added.

Browne said a defensive lapse led to Libby's first score. A mistake in the back resulted in another Libby goal.

"If you want to win games, you gotta find the back of the net," Brown said.
