Emergency director Peck resigning job
Mark Peck, Flathead County’s director of Emergency Services, has submitted a letter of resignation.
“I’ve enjoyed working for Flathead County immensely,” said Peck, who has been director for the last 3 1/2 years. “But it is time to move on and I leave knowing that Flathead County is in great hands.”
This actually is Peck’s second resignation from the position.
He resigned in April 2008 but ended up staying on the job as the county worked its way toward consolidating 911 dispatch services with Kalispell, Whitefish and Columbia Falls.
Voters approved a bond issue to pay for a new dispatch center that is being built off Stillwater Road, and the transition to a consolidated service will be complete early next year.
Peck has played a leading role throughout the entire process.
“Mark has done a tremendous amount of good in Flathead County,” Commissioner Joe Brenneman said. “He will be missed, but Mark always made sure that there were competent people serving under him to provide continuity.”
While his last day of work is set to be Feb. 9, Peck said he will provide whatever help is necessary to prevent any disruption of the 911 consolidation.
“I want to express my thanks to the members of the 911 board, past and present, and to the Flathead County Commissioners for their support of public safety,” Peck said.
Brenneman said the 911 board will meet in early January to consider interim management arrangements until a successor to Peck can be hired.
