Governor's tourism conference is in Kalispell

Knock on wood, but it appears that winter is finally behind us here in the Flathead. That means it’s time to prepare for the summer tourism rush.

Despite the recession, the state hosted more than 10 million visitors last year, spending some $3 billion during their travels. With heavy marketing for the yearlong Glacier Park centennial celebration and rising consumer confidence in the markets, that number is likely to increase in 2010.

To jump start the season, Kalispell will host the annual Montana Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation from Wednesday through Friday at the Red Lion Hotel.

“With the horizon starting to look a little brighter for the world economy, it’s time to start planting the seeds for good results in 2010 and that’s what the conference sessions are focused on doing,” Gov. Brian Schweitzer said in a press release.

From integrating social media to accessing state funds for tourism-related projects, the sessions are geared toward increasing foot traffic.

Presenters from across the country will share the latest world and state travel trends, as well as tools for effective sales and marketing, employee engagement and sustainable business practices.
