Markson Amadeus Yde, 70, died March 30, 2010, at his home in Somers. He was born May 24, 1939, in Brainerd, Minn., to Harold and Irene (Pietz) Yde. Following graduation from Brainerd High School and Brainerd Community College, and attending the University of Minnesota, he graduated from Montana School of Mines as a geological engineer. He started his mining career with The Anaconda Company in Butte, managed other mining ventures in Arizona and Alaska, and later worked as a research scientist for Getty Oil in Houston. He was a member of the Army National Guard, a mining consultant, a pilot, a registered Professional Engineer and also ranched for a time in the Deer Lodge/Anaconda area. His love for people who had great needs made him a modern-day Good Samaritan. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for kayaking and challenging triathlons, hunting, alpine skiing, biking and encouraging others to enjoy the same. He married Lorraine Brandt, also of Brainerd, on Sept. 18, 1962, his wife of 47 years. Markson will be greatly missed by his wife, Lorraine; sisters Lois Jensen of Nisswa, Minn., and Shirley Lintner and husband, Larry, of Brainerd, Minn.; as well as his sister-in law, Marion Weismann and husband, Tom, and sister-in-law, Sally Brandt and her late husband, Robert. Also surviving are nephews, Rick Jensen, Ed Brandt, Tom Brandt, and Steve Weismann; and nieces, Lori Dowd, April Lintner, Kari Hanninen, Laura Diamond, and Elizabeth Bundy; and several grand-nephews and -nieces. Markson was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life is planned for later this summer in Brainerd, Minn., and also in Somers, with interment of ashes at Bethel Cemetery, near Somers.
