Ida A. Landon, 90

Ida A. Landon, 90, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish. She was born Sept. 30, 1919, at Watford City, N.D., the seventh of eight children born to Odin and Bertha Berntson. She was raised on a potato farm and worked in a dairy as well. She married Charles S. Vance in 1937. They later moved to Whitefish with their three children, Darlene, Johnny and Darryl, in 1945. While expecting her daughter, Jeanne, in 1947, her oldest boy Johnny drowned in the Whitefish River, initiating the Search and Rescue Association of Flathead Valley, led by Dick Walsh. Her husband, Charles, also preceded her in death, in 1956. Ida worked in various jobs in Whitefish before moving to Seattle in 1961, to become a successful realtor. She resided there until returning to Whitefish to retire in 1987. She spent her final years being lovingly cared for by the staff at Colonial Manor. She is survived by her children, Darlene Schmidt and husband, Raymond, of Columbia Falls, Darryl Vance and wife, Reva, of Malta, and Jeanne Canfield and husband, Ken, of Whitefish; her sister, Esther Boreson, of Eureka; grandchildren, Rick, George, Terri, Jeff, Joe, Jen, Dennis, Denise and Cedar; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jason, John, Eric, Nathan, Kelly, Ciera, Trevor, Kody, Taylor, Presley and Makenna; and great-great-grandchildren, Maclean and Schafer. Services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor s choice. Austin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
