Woman charged with three felonies

A Kila woman faces three felony counts against her after a gun discharged during a domestic disturbance on Easter Sunday.

Although Karen Sue Anderson, 50, was taken into custody for allegedly attempted homicide, evidence found at the scene and further investigation led authorities to determine that two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of criminal endangerment were more appropriate charges.

Anderson is accused of pointing a handgun at her son and his father during an argument at 667 Kila Road early Sunday afternoon.

“After I reviewed the reports, I felt they were appropriate charges,” Deputy County Attorney Alison Howard said.

The handgun fired, but Howard said it was as Anderson retreated into a closet after allegedly pointing it at Jack Mannon.

According to court documents, Anderson and her son Chris Mannon had been arguing about furniture on Sunday.

Mannon told authorities he had knocked on the bedroom door several times to try and discuss the issues with his mother when she came out of the bedroom and allegedly pointed a handgun at him.

Mannon said he ducked into the kitchen and heard Anderson go back in the bedroom and shut the door.

Mannon said he became angry and grabbed a bottle of steak sauce, went to the bedroom, kicked the door in, and threw the steak sauce at his mother.

Anderson reportedly ducked into the closet and the steak sauce bottle broke on the bedroom wall.

Hearing the ruckus, Jack Mannon came upstairs and walked into the bedroom to see what was going on.

Anderson allegedly came back out of the closet, pointed the gun at him, then retreated back into the closet, at which point the gun discharged.

Jack Mannon told everyone to get out of the house and call 911.

Nobody was injured.

Anderson and her boyfriend Rick Thrope left but later were apprehended.

Thrope was arrested on an outstanding $12,000 felony warrant out of Michigan for nonpayment of child support.

Anderson remains in custody at the Flathead County Detention Center.
