Eileen Anne Kane, 81

Eileen Anne Kane, 81, a resident of Whitefish for the past 37 years, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at North Valley Hospital. Eileen was born in New York City on Dec. 17, 1928, the daughter of James and Ellen McNamara and was raised and educated there. She later married James Thomas Kane. In the 1960s, she and her husband owned and operated a Shell gas station in the Bronx. In 1972, after 11 years, the family moved to Montana, coming first to Bozeman. They came to Whitefish in May of 1973 where they purchased Frenchy s Chinese Gardens which they operated until it burned to the ground in 1974. In 1975, they built the Shangri-La Supper Club, and in 1989 started and operated the Par 3 on 93. They continued to operate the golf course aspect of that business until retiring in 2005. Eileen s husband preceded her in death, in 2006. She had been a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Whitefish and enjoyed participating in various church activities. Eileen was also noted as an excellent cook and found great enjoyment in handcrafts, most especially crocheting. Eileen is survived by her children, Brian Kane of Whitefish, Deirdre Kane of Kalispell, and James Kane of South Bridge, Mass.; her sister, Theresa Schneider, of San Diego; and her grandchildren, Maureen, Sean, Thomas, James, Austin and Kayden. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Whitefish. Parish vigil and rosary services will be at 7 p.m. this evening, April 11, at the Austin Funeral Home. Interment services will be later next week at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y.
