Libby, Polson sweep net duals

WHITEFISH — It was all Libby as the Loggers, led by defending state singles champion Jackie Mee, rolled to a 7-0 victory over Whitefish in a Western A tennis dual on Thursday.

Mee won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot.

This was just the second outing of the season for Whitefish.

“We’ve gotten better,” Whitefish coach Mike Watson said.

“We didn’t have her (Meredith Reed) last week. That helped to have her back. (Megan) Danczyk had a good match (at No. 4 singles). She played well.”

Libby’s Tana Wilson stopped Danczyk 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Whitefish plays at Hamilton and Stevensville on Saturday.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Tammy Kolatshek rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to prevent a sweep by Polson in a Western A dual. It was the lone match to go three sets.

Polson’s Erika Nunlist topped Natalie Law at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-5.

Columbia Falls plays at Corvallis and Stevensville on Saturday.

WHITEFISH — Libby won at Nos. 1-2 singles and doubles to escape with a tight Western A dual victory over Whitefish.

“I feel like we’re close to getting over the hump,” Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said.

“It’s the second dual we lost 4-3. We’re right on the edge of taking those, getting things to swing our way. We had a lot of long matches, three of them went three sets. We need to figure out how to close.”

Whitefish  heads to the Bitterroot Valley on Saturday for nonleague dual outings with Stevensville and Hamilton.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Miroslav Zvygelskiy’s 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles prevented the sweep by Polson.

Polson’s Matt Roberts won a tough battle with Vadim Zvygelskiy at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Columbia Falls, 0-2 in duals, plays at Stevensville and Corvallis on Saturday.

“We have a lot of new kids playing a lot of new positions,” Columbia Falls coach Gary Yee said. “He (Miroslav Zvygelskiy) had a pretty solid effort.”
