Potato shooter peels from scene

A suspect in a parking-lot shooting is still at large, according to Kalispell Police.

Officers received a call at 2:24 a.m. Thursday from the victim, who sustained a red mark near his ankle from the potato gun. Taking aim from a large white diesel truck, an unknown person fired at the victim in the parking lot of a Third Avenue East North grocery, then peeled away. The truck was last seen southbound on Third Avenue East North. Officers located the offending potato and examined the victim’s injury. No medical assistance was required. The shooter is still at large.

A West Wyoming resident was alarmed when “Daisy,” an 11-week-old Saint Bernard, was missing from the backyard Thursday morning. Only its collar remained. Officers learned the dog had been repossessed by the breeder and the issue was a civil matter.

A 17-year-old was released to his father after apparently shoplifting from a sporting goods store on Hutton Ranch Road Wednesday afternoon.

Someone keeps stealing garbage cans, a Harlequin  Court resident reported to police around 5 p.m. Wednesday. He suspects the Realtor who is selling the house next door. Both were counseled.

Unknowns were banging on a Third Avenue West window around 9 p.m. Wednesday. The suspects, possibly teenagers, were gone when police arrived.

A worried Tenth Avenue West resident called police when she heard something on her roof Wednesday night, but it turned out to be the neighbors.

A belligerent student was arrested for disorderly conduct at Flathead High School around noon Thursday.

Officers received 73 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Farm to Market Road resident apparently tried to run over a woman’s husband around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, she reported. Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies learned the neighbors have mutual restraining orders against each other. About two hours later, the woman called back because the neighbors were apparently calling her a “pedophile” and saying “bang bang.” She was counseled.

A man was driving along U.S. 93 when the passenger window suddenly exploded around 4 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies were unable to determine the cause.

A duck whose bottom bill was ripped off was given to a waterfowl rehabilitation expert around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

An airplane, apparently with mechanical problems, had to land in a field off Lower Valley Road at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Two dogs killed rabbits belonging to a Hungry Horse resident Wednesday night.

When a Mallard Loop resident yelled at a neighbor to slow down, the neighbor apparently steered toward her and tried to run her over Thursday morning.

Worried transients might be setting up camp in the Happy Valley area, a Cougar Trail resident said in a call to deputies around 10 a.m. Thursday. Upon investigation, deputies learned the crude structure was a kids’ fort.

Deputies received 123 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Whitefish Police received 14 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Columbia Falls Police were unable to locate the young man riding a bike recklessly through town, apparently pulling in front of vehicles and braking, smacking them with his hand and driving through red lights Wednesday afternoon.

 A teen was arrested for criminal trespass after security cameras caught him walking through Columbia Falls High School around 5 a.m. and pulling the fire alarm.

Officers received 21 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Alarms

After a 17-year-old boy drank too many energy drinks, an ambulance was dispatched to the Flathead High School parking lot at 3:17 p.m. Wednesday. After about 40 minutes, the boy refused ambulance transport.

A cyclist suffered a swollen nose after running into a vehicle near an East Idaho nursery Wednesday evening. Kalispell Ambulance transported him to  Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

An 11-year-old boy was apparently bitten by a poodle belonging to a neighbor in the Helena Flats area.
