Flathead shines at Missoula Invite
MISSOULA - The Flathead boys picked up second place and the girls finished third out of 17 teams at the Missoula Invitational track meet on Saturday.
Tess Brenneman broke a meet record in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet-11 1/2.
The Flathead sophomore also came in second in both the 200 and 400, ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay team and finished fifth in the high jump.
The Bravettes tallied 70 points. Polson was second place with 74 and Missoula Big Sky won with 95.
Senior Leif Castren won the boys 1,600 in 4:33, Zach Perrin came in third in both the 1,600 and 3,200 and the Braves tied with Corvallis at 67 points.
Mt. Spokane's boys won with 108. Glacier was seventh with 48 points.
Whitefish's Anto Daoud ran the fastest 400 time in the state currently with a 51.07.
Columbia Falls' 1,600 relay boys team finished in 3:31.0, which is also the fastest in the state right now.
Glacier's girls were fourth with 64 points. Maddey Frey won the 100 in 12.81 and was second in the long jump. Stacey Pitt won the pole vault with a clear of 10-feet even.
"We had some real nice performances and great improvements," Glacier girls coach Jerry Boschee said. "I think the kids are feeling pretty good for how the day went."
Glacier will host Whitefish in a dual on Tuesday at the high school track starting at 3 p.m.
Shane Freese won for the Wolfpack in the high jump with 6-4.
Polson's Loni Havlovick won the shot put with 37-4 and was second in the discus.
Polson's boys finished in ninth place with 36 points, Columbia Falls was 11th with 25 and Whitefish was next with 24.
